Two Piece Pouching System
Two Piece
Pouching System
A two-piece pouching system is a type of ostomy appliance that is used to collect waste from the body in individuals who have undergone ostomy surgery. The system consists of two separate components: a skin barrier (also called a wafer or flange) and a pouch.
The skin barrier is a flat adhesive base plate that is attached to the skin around the stoma. It provides a secure seal between the skin and the pouch and can be worn for several days before needing to be changed. The pouch is attached to the skin barrier using a locking mechanism or adhesive ring, and it collects the waste material from the stoma.
The advantages of a two-piece pouching system include the ability to change the pouch without having to remove the skin barrier, allowing for easier and less frequent skin barrier changes. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive skin or who have difficulty manipulating ostomy appliances.
Two-piece pouching systems come in various sizes, shapes, and materials to suit different body types, stoma sizes, and skin sensitivities. They also come with additional features, such as filters, closures, and comfort panels, to enhance their performance and comfort.
The Two Piece Pouching System provides more flexibility and versatility than the One Piece Pouching System. It allows for the pouch to be easily removed and replaced without having to remove the adhesive barrier from the skin, which can be more convenient for some users.
